Tips for Fixing a Squeaky Door Hinge

Most of the time a door hinge won't provide any trouble, but they are prone to
making squeaking noises if they become dirty. Doors of different sizes and
shapes use hinges for opening and closing. These are simple devices consisting
of two setting plates and a hinge pin that joins them together.
On the systems side, there is electrical, plumbing, heating and
cooling and communication systems that most often need
repairing. Other parts of our homes that occasionally need
repairs include insulation, windows and doors, driveways,
foundations, roofing, siding, flooring, tiles, cabinets, yards and
garages. The list goes on and on, as our homes have become
complicated structures where we spend most of our lives in as
much comfort as we can afford.

mount a door depends mounting a door on a door jamb, it is important that the hinge be set squarely
into both the door jamb and the door itself for both level and square after attaching it to the door jamb.

Moving on, a hinge is most likely to make squeaking sounds if it is dirty or needs lubrication. Not
surprisingly, the best way to stop a squeaky hinge is to clean and lubricate it.

Hinge pins are removed with a tap or two from below. Use a small hammer and screwdriver to do the
job. After a few good taps, the hinge pin should work loose from the hinge's barrels. If it's stuck and
won't come loose easily, try adding a little penetrating oil. Besides loosening nuts and bolts, penetrating
oil is useful for removing sticky door hinge pins.

Doors are mounted to the door jamb by attaching the two sides of a hinge to both
the door jamb and the door. The hing pin secures the two halves together. With the
hinge pin in place, the barrels fit together, one on top of the other, making a close,
but not overly tight fit. Doors of different sizes and shapes need different numbers
and sizes of door hinges.
